Psalms 125-127
Song excerpt by Marty Goetz. Purchase the CD here.
Based on the text of Psalm 127:1-2
Unless the Lord builds the house,
##its builders labor in vain.
Unless the Lord watches over the city,
##the watchmen stand guard in vain.
In vain you rise early
##and stay up late,
toiling for food to eat
##for he grants sleep to those he loves.

Lamentations 3-5; Proverbs 9:10-18
Jeremiah used fire imagery several times in his Book of Lamentations. The actual images of fire coming from California are a fitting background.

Jeremiah 49-50; Proverbs 8:12-31
I've been following the news today about the fires in California. In May when we were there we spent a day driving through the canyons that are now on fire.
The Malibu Presbyterian Church building was among the structures destroyed. Click here to see some pictures. As the sign in front of the church indicates, the sermon yesterday was to be from Revelation 4, which ends with these words:
"You are worthy, our Lord and God,I'm not sure how it could happen to a stone fortress, but apparently this place also burned up yesterday . . .
to receive glory and honor and power,
for you created all things,
and by your will they were created
and have their being."

Psalm 122-124
If the LORD had not been on our side—
let Israel say—if the LORD had not been on our side
when men attacked us,when their anger flared against us,
they would have swallowed us alive;the flood would have engulfed us,
the torrent would have swept over us,the raging waters
would have swept us away.
Praise be to the LORD,
who has not let us be torn by their teeth. We have escaped like a bird
out of the fowler's snare;
the snare has been broken,
and we have escaped. Our help is in the name of the LORD,
the Maker of heaven and earth. —Psalm 124

Jeremiah 43-45; Proverbs 7:1-5
Average high temperature for October 18 here in GR is 59 degrees. The extra 17 degrees is nice, but we're going to pay for it tonight with severe weather.

Psalm 119
Yes, these pictures are from today. Yes, it's Grand Haven. And yes, it's October 7. I can't recall ever seeing this many people at the beach, and actually swimming, after the snow fences were up!
