Jeremiah 49-50; Proverbs 8:12-31

Monday's Bible Reading: Jeremiah 49-50; Proverbs 8:12-31

I've been following the news today about the fires in California. In May when we were there we spent a day driving through the canyons that are now on fire.

The Malibu Presbyterian Church building was among the structures destroyed. Click here to see some pictures. As the sign in front of the church indicates, the sermon yesterday was to be from Revelation 4, which ends with these words:
"You are worthy, our Lord and God,
to receive glory and honor and power,
for you created all things,
and by your will they were created
and have their being."
I'm not sure how it could happen to a stone fortress, but apparently this place also burned up yesterday . . .

Firefighters couldn't save Castle Kashan.

The fire completely consumed "Castle Kashan" owned by Lilly Lawrence. Dr. Thomas Hodges built the 15,200-square-foot castle, which sits atop a bluff off Malibu Crest Road near the Malibu Presbyterian Church.

Lawrence, the daughter of a former Prime Minister of Oil of Iran, has opened her home to various charitable events throughout the years and the castle was filled with irreplaceable artifacts, including a chandelier reportedly valued at $1 million, an extensive collection of Elvis Presley memorabilia, as well as memorabilia from the Dalai Lama and Princess Diana.

The castle, which was on the market for $17 million, sits just above the Malibu Civic Center. (Excerpt from Malibu Times.)
