"But if you or your sons turn away from me and do not observe the commands and decrees I have given you and go off to serve other gods and worship them, then I will cut off Israel from the land I have given them and will reject this temple I have consecrated for my Name. Israel will then become a byword and an object of ridicule among all peoples. And though this temple is now imposing, all who pass by will be appalled and will scoff and say, 'Why has the LORD done such a thing to this land and to this temple?' People will answer, 'Because they have forsaken the LORD their God, who brought their fathers out of Egypt, and have embraced other gods, worshiping and serving them—that is why the LORD brought all this disaster on them.' Having just returned from Southern California, where we met several Christians involved in the motion picture industry, I was particularly sad to hear the commentary by fellow Christian David Kuo concerning the death of Jerry Falwell. Kuo began his column with this paragraph:

Yesterday a friend from Los Angeles called. The person is successful, known, part of the entertainment industry. "Jerry Falwell is," my friend said "the reason I can't call myself a Christian in Hollywood. He is what everyone thinks about when they hear the word, 'Christian.'"

You can read the rest of the interview at "Blurring the Church-State Line: Falwell's Flaw."

At 3:00 a.m. I was awakened by the sound of loud growling. It was not Maggie. It was Jay. A lion was guarding a tourist sight, and Jay believed he could keep the lion from attacking by being the loudest growler.

At 3:15 a.m. I was again awakened but this time by singing . . . of the National Anthem. Occasion unknown. Jay was annoyed that I would not sing along.

Another interesting night at the Link's.

Hello from Hollywood!

A few pictures . . .

The only real star on Hollywood Boulevard. "Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever" (Daniel 12:3).

Whoever lives here has a great view of Los Angeles (photo below). I'll settle for the picture.

A few of the paparazzi parked outside The Summit, an exclusive gated community that is home to some of the most expensive homes in the Hollywood Hills. Kareem Adbul Jabbar has a house in The Summit that you can see from Mulholland Drive, and the estate where Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony were married can also be seen in The Summit. As of May 2006, it has been rumored that Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony have placed their Summit address on the market for $16.1 million. (Information from HollywoodTours.us.)

Here are a few pictures from our excursion today. First stop, the Reagan Presidential Library & Museum in Simi Valley.

After leaving Simi Valley, we headed for beautiful Santa Barbara . . .

We had supper at Moby Dick's, the restaurant to the left of the white building closest to the end of the pier.

This year, our first walk on the pier was in Santa Barbara, not Grand Haven.
