Eagle Cam at Norfolk Botanical Garden.

He shielded him and cared for him;
he guarded him as the apple of his eye,

like an eagle that stirs up its nest
and hovers over its young,
that spreads its wings to catch them
and carries them on its pinions. — Deuteronomy 32:10-11

The eagle nest is located in a 90 foot loblolly pine between the Mattson Garden and Renaissance Court in Norfolk Botanical Garden. The birds’ home is between 600 and 800 pounds and about 8 feet in diameter.

Believe it or not, this is our back yard today, 11 April 2007.
Oh, Spring, my Spring, where art thou, my Spring?!

Irony . . .
While I am struggling to keep a fire going in my fireplace to chase away the gloom of this snowy April day, I learned that firefighters in Nashville, Tennessee, were unable to stop the fire that destroyed the home of country music legend Johnny Cash.

Before . . .

After . . .

Today's news coverage led me back to my favorite DVD, "Hurt." This day of fire and ice is a good time to watch it once again and reflect on its profound and sobering beauty. Click here to watch it on YouTube.com.

The "Hurt" DVD was my inspiration for writing "Choose to Feel." Too often I choose wrong things in order to hide feelings or numb feelings in an attempt to avoid legitimate and healthy bad feelings.

Joshua 4-6; Proverbs 1:1-7

Monday's Bible Reading: Joshua 4-6; Proverbs 1:1-7

Passover begins today, and today's Bible reading includes a passage about the very first Passover in the Promised Land:

Then the LORD said to Joshua, "Today I have rolled away the reproach of Egypt from you." So the place has been called Gilgal to this day.

On the evening of the fourteenth day of the month, while camped at Gilgal on the plains of Jericho, the Israelites celebrated the Passover. The day after the Passover, that very day, they ate some of the produce of the land: unleavened bread and roasted grain. The manna stopped the day after they ate this food from the land; there was no longer any manna for the Israelites, but that year they ate of the produce of Canaan. —Joshua 5:9-12

Today In Jewish History
14 Nisan

In the Hebrew year 2448 (1312 BCE), the Jews in Egypt offered the Passover lamb, to be eaten later that night at the first Passover Seder. This was an act of great courage, as sheep were regarded as idols in Egyptian society, and the Jews were technically still subject to Egyptian slavery. This was God's way of emphasizing the idea that Egyptian society was in a state of collapse. In times of the Holy Temple, the Passover Lamb would be offered by every Jewish family; many thousands of lambs would be processed and prepared in the Temple during the afternoon hours preceding the Passover holiday. —from Aish.com

Also, today is the first anniversary of my "coming out" party. After being bald for eight months, I went out into the world with my head uncovered on April 1, 2006.

Today after church Jay and I went to Meijer Gardens for lunch and then to see the butterflies. We also went through the Patrick Dougherty sculpture exhibit. Very cool! Check out some of the videos on his website: Stickwork.net.

The birthstone for April is diamond. To see an amazing picture, go to Molecular Expressions. I used diamonds as a metaphor in Loving God with All My Strength, so right now I am especially intrigued by them.
